袁隆平（1930—2021），中国工程院院士，“共和国勋章”获得者。他一生致力于杂交水稻研究，1973年成功培育出世界上第一个实用高产杂交水稻品种，使我国水稻亩产提高20%以上。他的研究成果在全球40多个国家推广种植，帮助数亿人解决温饱问题。即便80多岁高龄，袁隆平仍每天下田观察水稻，曾说：“我毕生的追求就是让所有人远离饥饿。”
Yuan Longping (1930–2021), an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and recipient of the Medal of the Republic, dedicated his life to hybrid rice research. In 1973, he successfully developed the world’s first practical high-yield hybrid rice variety, increasing China’s rice yield per mu by over 20%. His achievements have been promoted in more than 40 countries, helping hundreds of millions of people escape hunger. Even in his eighties, Yuan continued to work in the rice fields every day. He once said, “My lifelong pursuit is to keep all people away from hunger.”
