I gained a lot from the Party Day study session this Wednesday on preserving and developing traditional Cantonese opera culture in the new era.
At first, I thought these old traditions might have little to do with modern life. But after looking at the real examples shared by two of my comrade,my view has changed completely.
For instance, in some villages, old crafts like paper-cutting or embroidery were almost forgotten. Later, young people learned these skills and shared them on the internet. They also added creative, modern designs. As a result, more people became interested, and the crafts came back to life.
From these examples, I learned that revitalization is possible. We need two things: first, to pass the skills to young people; second, to use new tools like social media or e-commerce. When old meets new, intangible cultural heritage can live on.
In the future, I hope to do my own small part to help protect and revitalize our cultural treasures.
