Since ancient times, China's water resources have been extremely unevenly distributed, with scarcity in the north and abundance in the south. To effectively address the severe water shortage in northern regions, the Chinese government launched the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. This is a major water conservancy project designed to allocate water resources across regions. After decades of planning and preparation, its construction began in 2002. Consisting of eastern, central, and western routes totaling 4,350 kilometers in length, the project is expected to benefit more than 400 million people. Since it started supplying water in 2014, the project has diverted over 50 billion cubic meters of water to the north, providing a reliable water source for people in northern areas. It has also significantly improved the local ecological environment and promoted sustainable and healthy economic developlenty.
