Learning English in an English - speaking country has many advantages, so it is a wise choice to learn it in Britain or America. However, I hold that it is not the sole way to master the language.
Initially, most students in non - English - speaking countries learn English at schools. Though their oral English may not be excellent, they usually have a solid grasp of grammar. This knowledge is of great use when they go abroad later to polish their language skills. Meanwhile, learning English in English - speaking countries has obvious merits. Students there can practice listening and speaking daily, experience local culture to better understand the language, especially if living with local families, and improve reading and writing under native teachers' guidance.
Nevertheless, learning English at home is also effective. Students face less pressure and avoid problems like high tuition and accommodation costs. In short, studying abroad is preferable, but one can also attain a good English level at home with dedication.
